Yerevan, Sep 19 (IANS) Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said his country would not miss the chance to join the European Union if given the opportunity.
Pashinyan said that due to our democratic strategies, we want to deepen relations with the European Union, the US and other Western allies.
However, he added that Armenia should not place its democratic values in opposition to its regional diplomacy.
“Our actions towards the EU must be transparent, the same applies to the intentions of our European partners. If there is a concrete opportunity to join the EU and we are in a position to manage the risks involved, we will definitely take advantage of it,” the Armenian prime minister said, according to news agency Xinhua.
The European Union (EU) is a political and economic union of 27 member states. The EU was formed to bring together the countries of Europe.
The EU helps its member countries on issues such as trade, security and citizens’ rights.
The group had 28 member countries as of 2013. However, in 2016, one member—the United Kingdom—voted to leave the EU.
The UK officially left the Union on January 31, 2020.
