Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in his speech from the Red Fort on Independence Day. Opposition parties are strongly criticizing this. Several leaders, including AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, accused him of insulting the freedom struggle and using the national event for his organizational benefit. Owaisi described the praise of the Sangh as an insult to the freedom struggle. He alleged that the RSS and its associates work as the pieces of the British. He never hated Gandhi as much as the British.
Asaduddin Owaisi said in a post on X, ‘The ideology of Hindutva believes in boycott and it is against the values of our Constitution. Modi could go to Nagpur as a volunteer and praise the Sangh, but why did he have to do this from the Red Fort as Prime Minister? ‘ Owaisi said that China remains our biggest external threat. But even more threatening that is within us – hatred and division being spread by the Sangh Parivar. We have to defeat all such forces so that we can true our freedom.
Trying to please RSS: Congress
The Congress also described the Prime Minister’s speech with the ramparts of the Red Fort on Independence Day. Jairam Ramesh, head of the Congress Communications Department, said that the most worrying aspect of Modi’s speech on Independence Day was to take the name of the RSS from the ramparts of the Red Fort. This is a severe violation of the spirit of constitutional, secular republic. Ramesh called it an attempt by Prime Minister Modi to please the RSS. He said that it is nothing but Modi’s frustrated attempt to please the organization before his 75th birthday next month. He said that the Prime Minister, who has been decisively weak since June 4 last year, is now completely dependent on the mercy of Mohan Bhagwat so that his tenure can be extended after September.
What did Prime Minister Modi say about the Sangh
Prime Minister Modi in his address to the ramparts of the Red Fort mentioned the completion of 100 years of the establishment of the RSS. He said that the country is proud of this organization’s journey of national service. He also said that RSS is the largest NGO in the world and it will continue to inspire. The Prime Minister said, “Today, 100 years ago, an organization was born, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. 100 years of service to the nation are very proud. From manufacturing to nation building, millions of volunteers dedicated their lives to the welfare of Maa Bharati. In a way, it is the biggest NGO in the world. It is a history of 100 years.”
