Guwahati, October 22 (IANS). All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is all set to announce the name of its candidate for the upcoming by-election on Samaguri assembly seat.
“Discussions are going on about some possible candidates for the Samaguri seat. The party has decided to field a strong candidate on this seat. This time we have a chance to win this seat and oust Congress from Samaguri,” a senior leader said on Tuesday. Very likely to do.”
AIUDF will contest only one seat in the upcoming by-elections. AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal said, “We have decided to contest the elections in Samaguri assembly constituency. Our party will not contest the remaining four seats where by-elections are to be held.”
Earlier, Ajmal had announced that his party will contest on three assembly seats in the upcoming by-elections. “We are planning to field our candidates in Dholai, Samaguri and Bongaigaon,” he had said.
In the Lok Sabha elections held this year, Ajmal lost to Congress’s Rakibul Hussain in Dhubri by a margin of more than 10 lakh votes.
Let us inform that after the election of five MLAs in the Lok Sabha, Dholai, Samaguri, Behali, Bongaigaon and Sidli seats had become vacant. By-elections are going to be held on these seats next month.
Congress has made Tanjeel Hussain, son of Rakibul Hussain, its candidate from Samaguri. At the same time, BJP is trying to oust Congress from Samaguri this time.
The ruling party has fielded its top leaders in the campaign for the by-elections. The party has announced its candidates for Dholai, Samaguri and Behali. D. Ranjan Sarma from Samaguri, Diganta Ghatowar from Behali and Nihar Ranjan Das from Dholai are in the fray.
