Guwahati, 17 April (IANS). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) presented the charge sheet.
Sarma accused Rahul Gandhi of involvement in the activity of corruption and fraud in the National Herald newspaper. He said, “After the company was fraudulently acquired by the Gandhi family, the assets of the establishment suddenly increased from only Rs 50 lakh to Rs 2,000 crore. In addition, the company was made under Section 9 of the Company Registration Act, in which it is mandatory that no one can make a profit from it. But the Gandhi family was earning profit from it.”
He said, “Today Congress workers have staged protests against the ED’s charge sheet in many places, but these poor people do not know that their leaders Rahul Gandhi are involved in deep corruption. I urge Congress workers to ask their leaders to ask their leaders to return the money of the public looted by party funds. Have you seen the situation of party offices of Congress? The situation of Congress offices in Assam can also be pathetic.
CM said, “People should understand that Rahul Gandhi is earning money, but poor Congress workers are deprived. I feel pity on them. I have a lot of sympathy from Congress workers who are on the ground. Rahul Gandhi always targets others and calls him corrupt, but now the time has come that the pair of mother and daughter can prove their innocence in front of the court.”
It is noteworthy that the ED on Tuesday filed a charge sheet in the money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper. Apart from Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, Congress leaders Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey have been made co-accused in the charge sheet. The case is based on the complaint filed in 2014 by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, which is related to the alleged acquisition of property worth more than Rs 2,000 crore by the National Herald Publisher Associated Journal Limited (AJL) and then transferring to Young Indian. Both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have a 38 percent stake in the young Indian company.
