Dispur, Sep 22 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared a photo of rhinos from Kaziranga National Park in Assam on World Rhino Day. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked PM Modi for this.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on social media platform Twitter, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, thank you! Under your leadership, Assam’s rhinos are safer than ever. Since the double-engine government came to power in 2016, poaching has decreased by 86 percent. We are very grateful for your commitment to promote and preserve our living heritage.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared several photos of himself while visiting Kaziranga National Park in Assam some time ago. In these photos, the Prime Minister is seen sitting on an elephant inside the park and watching rhinos.
In the caption of this post, he wrote, “Today on World Rhino Day, let us reiterate our commitment to protect one of the most iconic species of our planet – the rhinoceros. Congratulations to all those involved in rhino conservation efforts over the past several years. It is a matter of immense pride that India has a large number of one-horned rhinoceros. I also recall my visit to Kaziranga National Park in Assam and urge all of you to visit there.
Let us tell you that Kaziranga National Park in Assam has a large number of one-horned rhinoceroses. Apart from this, many mammals including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears are also found here in large numbers.
World Rhino Day is celebrated every year on 22 September. This day is celebrated to honor all the five species of rhinoceros and to provide them protection. There are five species of rhinoceros. These include black, white, greater one-horned, Sumatran and Javan rhinoceros. World Rhino Day was declared in 2010 by WWF-South Africa.
