Mumbai, March 24 (IANS). Comedian Kunal Kamra, who was caught in controversies due to his joke, reacted through social media platform Instagram. He has also condemned the sabotage at the Habitat Club. At the same time, he has said not to apologize.
Comedian Kunal Kamra, in his statement released on social media platform Instagram, condemned the sabotage at the Habitat Club. He said, “Entertainment site is only one platform. There is a place for all types of shows. Habitate (or any other place) is not responsible for my comedy, nor does it have any power or control over what I say or do. Nor does any political party do so.”
Kamra further said, “It is as silly to attack a venue for a comedian’s words as to overturn a truck carrying tomatoes, because you did not like the served butter chicken.”
Regarding the threats he received, Kamra said, “Our right to speech and freedom of expression should not be used only to flatter powerful and rich people, even though today’s media gives us confidence otherwise. Your disability to not tolerate the joke at the expense of a powerful public person does not change the nature of my right. As far as I know, our leaders and our political system are not a mockery of our political system. However, I am ready to cooperate with the police and courts for any legal action taken against me. “
He further wrote, “But, whether the law will be impartial and equally applicable against those who have decided that there is a proper response to sabotage when hurt by a joke? And against those indignant members of BMC, who reached Habitat without any prior notice today and broke the place with hammers? Perhaps for my next place, I would need to choose Elphinstone Bridge or Mumbai, which will be destroyed in Mumbai.”
Kamra wrote, “Those who are busy leaking my number or calling me continuously, I am sure that by now you must have realized that all unknown calls go to my Viocell, where you will be narrated the song you hate.”
The comedian asked not to apologize. He wrote, “I will not apologize. What I said is exactly what Ajit Pawar (First Deputy Chief) said about Eknath Shinde (Second Deputy Chief Minister). I am not afraid of this crowd and I will not wait for the incident to calm down.”
