A delegation led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal will meet Election Commission officials at 3 pm on Monday to raise the issue of ‘transfer of votes from Greater Noida to Delhi’ of party candidate from Patparganj, Awadh Ojha.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said this is an urgent issue as Ojha’s candidature depends on his vote being transferred to Delhi so that he can file nomination papers.
The AAP chief claimed that Ojha had filed his Form 8 on January 7 to ‘transfer votes’ from Greater Noida to Delhi. January 7 was the last date to submit Form 8 for ‘transferring votes’, but the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi changed the last date to January 6 through an order.
He said, “This is against the law” and suspected that the move was aimed at “deliberately preventing” Ojha from contesting the elections.
Kejriwal said the Election Commission (EC) has not given any time to meet, but the party delegation will go there and wait for a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner as the matter is urgent.
He said the delegation would also raise the issue of several applications for voter registration made at the addresses of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders living in the New Delhi constituency.
Along with AAP MPs Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha, members of the delegation include Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and her Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann.
