Amid the power crisis and deteriorating law and order in Jharkhand, the political movement has intensified over Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s proposed Sweden and Spain. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president and Leader of Opposition in Jharkhand Assembly Babulal Marandi has raised serious questions about the time-limit, purpose and role of persons in the delegation.
Marandi posted on the social media platform “X” on Friday, saying that when the law and order in the state has crocused and the power situation is continuously deteriorating, then the Chief Minister is going on a foreign tour with a big government delegation. He has also raised a sharp question about the participation of Chief Minister’s wife and JMM MLA Kalpana Soren in this visit.
Marandi asked, “If the purpose of this journey is to attract foreign investment, then why is the state industry minister excluded from the delegation?”
He said that even though the Secretary and Director of the Department of Industries are part of the visit, the absence of the minister doubts the intention of this visit.
The BJP leader alleged that this is not the first time that ministers in the JMM government have been kept away from leading roles. He claimed that in an important investment meeting held in Kolkata, the Industry Minister was also stopped at the last moments, which was directly derogatory.
He raised the question, “If this tour is official, Kalpana Soren is participating in it? And if it is a private tour, then why is the entire team of officers being sent at government expense?”
Marandi also questioned the participation of a retired Indian Foreign Service Officer involved in the delegation, whose role and credit has been a topic of discussion in the state before.
Targeting the working style of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Marandi said, “The neglect of ministers of allies in the JMM government has become a tradition. The policy decision process of many departments is now being unofficially shrinking around the Chief Minister’s wife.”
Significantly, Hemant Soren has recently been appointed as the President of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), while party founder Shibu Soren has been given the role of ‘founder patron’. The decision was taken at the 13th Central Session of JMM held in Ranchi.
JMM has won the recently concluded assembly elections and has formed a government in Jharkhand in collaboration with Congress, RJD and Left parties. The party is also part of the Congress -led coalition at the center.
