Begusarai, 22 March (IANS). Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav took out a march on Saturday against the Central Government’s decision to transfer the regional maize research and seed production center, Kushmhaut (Begusarai) to Shivamogga (Karnataka).
The padyatra started from Power House Chowk in Begusarai and took out to the striking Chowk, in which a large number of farmers, local citizens and activists participated. During the padyatra, MP Pappu Yadav accused the central government of behaving steply with Bihar.
He said, “Regional Mecca Research Center is a lifeline for the farmers of Bihar. Making it to Karnataka is a direct attack on the agricultural economy and interests of farmers. Bihar is an important contribution in maize production, yet the central government is taking this center out of the state and cheating our farmers.”
He said that this padyatra is not just a protest, but a fight for the soil and honor of the farmers of Bihar. We will not sit silent and will continue to raise our voice against this injustice. The central government will have to withdraw this decision, otherwise the people of Bihar will give a befitting reply to it.
Those involved in the padyatra shouted slogans against the central government and demanded the Mecca Research Center to be maintained in Begusarai itself. MP Pappu Yadav has demanded the government that the decision to transfer this important institute related to the livelihood of farmers should be canceled immediately.
He said that he has spoken to Land Revenue Minister Sanjay Saraogi regarding the problem of land given to the thermal power of the farmers of the district. The officials of the mining department also spoke to Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha about the problem of farmers’ fields cut from the farmers. Both have assured to solve problems.
Targeting Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Pappu Yadav said that even if 100 ministers like him come, even then the regional maize research and seed production center, Kushmahut (Begusarai) will not be shifted from here. At the same time, targeting local MP Giriraj Singh, he said that he has no meaning with the development of Bihar, only to do Hindu-Muslims. He has not done any work for the development of the district.
