New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) The anti-Sikh riots of 1984 shook the country. Thousands of Sikhs lost their lives in these riots and many families were devastated. During these riots, Sikhs were brutalized in many parts of the country including Delhi. Now after several decades, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has given a big decision in this case.
The court has ordered framing of charges against Jagdish Tytler under IPC 302 (murder), 147 (rioting), 109 (incitement to commit a crime) and other sections. This case is related to the murder of three Sikhs in Pulbangash area and the allegation of setting fire to the Gurudwara Sahib. The next hearing of this case will be on September 13.
According to the CBI chargesheet, Tytler had incited rioters to commit violence near Gurdwara Sahib, following which the mob killed three Sikhs by putting tyres around their necks and setting them on fire. The mob also set the Gurdwara Sahib on fire.
This decision is a big relief for the victim families who lost their family members during these riots. This decision has raised the hope that now the people responsible for these riots will be punished for their deeds.
Let us tell you, the 1984 anti-Sikh riots are a painful and sad event in the history of India. These riots took place after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in which people of the Sikh community were targeted. Thousands of Sikhs lost their lives in these riots and many families were destroyed. During this riot, Sikhs were brutalized. Their houses and shops were burnt, and they were killed. Many Sikh women were raped and their families were destroyed.
Those responsible for these riots have not yet been punished. In many cases, the rioters were saved and the victims did not get justice. The country still remembers the anti-Sikh riots of 1984. This is an incident that shook the country and its pain can be felt even today.
