BJP criticises Farooq Abdullah's demand for 'peace without security forces' in J&K

New Delhi, Sep 7 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday slammed National Conference president Farooq Abdullah’s call to “bring peace in the Kashmir Valley without security forces”, and cautioned against making any “disruptive” statements at a time when the Union Territory is seeing a return to normalcy.

Speaking to IANS, BJP spokesperson Shazia Ilmi strongly objected to the call for withdrawal of Army from Kashmir Valley and advised the NC chief to focus on greener areas after 2019.

Ilmi said, “Farooq Abdullah’s statement is incomprehensible. We all know what happened during his rule. The lives of common Kashmiris were disrupted and their livelihoods were destroyed. Now that peace has been restored, he is talking about removing the army.”

He said, “After so many years, there is finally peace in Jammu. People can now walk around Lal Chowk peacefully. The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the tough decision to revoke Article 370 because it was necessary for the country.”

A day earlier, Farooq Abdullah had said that the Centre had deployed several battalions of troops to ‘forcibly’ bring peace in the Kashmir Valley.

He told media persons, “Go, walk and see the streets of Jammu and Kashmir. There should be peace without soldiers all around.”

Shazia Ilmi also criticised the Congress on the Himachal Pradesh issue related to a mosque allegedly built on illegal property.

He asked, “The Congress party has double standards. When it comes to Uttar Pradesh, the matter is given a Hindu-Muslim twist, but, when it comes to Shimla’s Sanjauli Masjid, it goes from one floor to five floors. For other states, they try to create communal divide, while in states ruled by them, illegal constructions go past legal constructions.”
