Members and ministers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned the controversial remarks of Samajwadi Party’s Ramji Lal Suman against Rajput Raja Rana Sanga on Friday and created a ruckus in the Rajya Sabha demanding an unconditional apology.
As soon as the proceedings of the House started, BJP members stood at their respective places and started shouting slogans. Due to the uproar, the proceedings of the House were interrupted for about half an hour.
Chairman Jagadin Dhankhar said that Rana Sanga is a symbol of patriotism and the indefinite comment made about him cannot be accepted. He described the Rajput king as a national hero who fought bravely and termed the SP member’s remarks against him as ‘highly derogatory and objectionable’. He said that members should take care while speaking on sensitive issues and maintain dignity.
The Chairman also said that the remarks made by Suman have been expelled from the proceedings of the House. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the Chairman has reflected the spirit of the country about Rana Sanga.
He described Suman’s remarks as derogatory and extremely condemnable and said that the Congress should also refute Suman.
Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said that the things that have been said about Rana Sanga on behalf of Chairman Dhankhar are fully agreed to him. He said that he and his party respect all the patriots fighting for the country and sacrificing their lives.
Referring to the attacks on his house and property after Suman’s controversial statement, he said that no one has the right to take law and order in his hands and enter and vandalize the MP’s house. He said that such anti -Dalit antics will not be tolerated.
He said that but it is not fair at all that his (SP member’s) residence should be attacked and bulldozers should be run. Kharge also said that Suman’s safety should be ensured.
Pramod Tiwari of Congress said that Rana was Sanga Veer and we respect his bravery, bowing to his valor.
Radhamohan Das Aggarwal of the Bharatiya Janata Party said that Suman has not withdrawn his comment but has said that he will remain adamant on his point till death. He alleged that the Leader of Opposition has also insulted Rana Sanga by raising the issue of Suman being a Dalit. He said that the BJP will not sit silent on this issue until Suman and Congress apologize.
Subsequently, Rijiju said that he condemns Kharge’s remarks that Suman’s house was attacked because he was a Dalit. He said that it is not a matter of caste or religion.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that Suman’s remarks are condemnable and insult to the heroes of the country. He urged Asana to condemn Suman’s comment in the House so that the correct message will go.
Goyal accused Kharge that he has tried to do politics on this by raising the issue of caste of SP member, which is condemnable. Kharge replied that all the hero, whether Rana Sanga or Maharana Pratap is a very respected person. He said that his objection is to violence because the constitution does not allow it. After this, the Chairman gave Suman an opportunity to speak.
SP member Suman had not even started speaking that the members of the ruling party intensified the ruckus. Seeing the uproar, the Chairman adjourned the proceedings of the House till 12 noon at around 11.29 pm. However, when the proceedings resumed at 12 o’clock, Chairman Dhankhar started the Question Hour.
During this, Suman was heard saying from his seat that he should get a chance to speak. But the Chairman continued the Question Hour.
It is to be known that on March 21, Ramji Lal Suman made a disputed remarks on Rana Sanga, taking part in the debate on the review of the functioning of the Home Ministry in the Rajya Sabha.
