New Delhi, September 3 (IANS). Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from West Bengal’s Bishnupur Lok Sabha seat Soumitra Khan on Tuesday wrote a letter to Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal. In this, he targeted the state’s Mamata Banerjee government over the incident at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Along with this, he demanded action to improve the law and order in West Bengal.
BJP MP Saumitra Khan wrote in a letter to Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, “As you must be aware, a horrific incident took place at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata on 9 August, where a trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered. This shocking incident has outraged people from all sections of the country, leading to protests by students in Kolkata and various states of the country.
He further wrote, “Respected Minister, I am very sad to inform you that the law and order situation in West Bengal has completely deteriorated since August 9, 2024. The Kolkata Police Commissioner has consistently failed to address this incident effectively. Even when the students protested peacefully, the Police Commissioner responded by resorting to tactics like firing, lathicharge, tear gas and water cannons against our promising youth. Additionally, there are concerns that the police may have attempted to tamper with or destroy evidence related to the incident.”
Soumitra Khan wrote, “I request you to take immediate action to improve the state of justice and law enforcement in West Bengal and take appropriate action against the Kolkata Police Commissioner for failing to maintain the justice system effectively, due to the continuous violation and destruction of the Constitution, Act 355 should be implemented in West Bengal. I hope, you will definitely consider the interest of justice of the country and the culture of the society and do justice to the daughter of the country.”
