Launching a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for opposing the recently announced ‘Pujari Granthi Samman’ scheme, Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh on Wednesday asked the BJP to instead oppose the schemes of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Compete on development works.
Addressing a press conference, the senior AAP leader challenged the BJP to implement a similar scheme in the 22 states ruled by it.
He said, “It is shameful that after Kejriwal ji announced the ‘Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana’, the entire BJP started opposing it. Every day they are raising questions and protesting. The whole country is watching their intentions.”
Singh highlighted that in the neighboring BJP-ruled state of Haryana, imams and maulvis get Rs 16,000 as honorarium. He asked why similar assistance could not be provided to priests and Sikh priests in the 22 BJP ruled states.
Under the ‘Pujari-Granthi Samman Yojana’ announced by AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday, a monthly honorarium of Rs 18,000 has been promised to the priests and Sikh granthis of Delhi’s Hindu temples.
The AAP chief along with his wife Sunita Kejriwal launched the scheme from Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi launched this scheme from the Gurudwara located in Karol Bagh.
BJP has criticized this plan and accused AAP of playing vote bank politics ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
