As the assembly elections in Delhi are getting closer, the war of words between the Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress and AAP is intensifying. Now once again former Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has targeted BJP. He said that if BJP wins the elections then all the slums will be demolished.
Addressing a press conference in Delhi’s Shakur Basti area on Sunday, the former CM accused the BJP of giving priority to land acquisition over the welfare of slum dwellers. Taking a dig at the BJP, Kejriwal said, “First they want your vote and after the elections your land.”
He also criticized BJP’s ‘Where there is a slum, there is a house’ scheme and called it a sham. “In the last five years they have constructed only 4,700 flats for slum dwellers,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal also alleged that the BJP plans to take over the land occupied by slum dwellers without meeting their housing needs. “They will demolish all the slums and acquire the land without any concern for the people living there,” he said.
Kejriwal was also accompanied by senior AAP leader Satyendar Jain, who is the party’s candidate from Shakur Basti constituency. Jain is contesting again from this seat for the fourth time after winning in 2013, 2015 and 2020.
Voting will be held in Delhi on February 5 and the results will be declared on February 8. AAP, which won 62 out of 70 seats in Delhi in the 2020 elections, is hoping for a full term for the third consecutive time.
