Agartala, November 3 (IANS). Following the unrest in Bangladesh, infiltration continues in the north-eastern states, especially Tripura and Assam. Officials said that on Saturday, the Border Security Force (BSF) arrested five more citizens of the neighboring country, including a broker.
A BSF spokesperson said that acting on specific information, border security forces from BOP Kamalasagar under Sepahijala district arrested four Bangladeshi nationals when they were trying to cross the border fence and enter Indian territory.
Three of the four detained are residents of Bangladesh’s Gopalganj district, while the Bangladeshi broker, who was arrested along with three infiltrators, is a resident of Kasba, which is located on the India-Bangladesh border opposite Sipahijala district.
The spokesperson said that the Bangladeshi broker often helped illegal infiltrators.
In another operation, BSF troops from BOP Samarupara under Unakoti district arrested a Bangladeshi national while he was trying to infiltrate into Indian territory.
The arrested Bangladeshi national is a resident of Netrakona district of Bangladesh.
The spokesperson said that alert BSF personnel in various operations foiled various attempts of cross border smuggling along the India-Bangladesh border, rescued 12 cattle and seized contraband.
The BSF on Friday caught two Rohingyas from a bus stand in Karbuk area of southern Tripura.
According to BSF officials, both the captured Rohingya illegal migrants are residents of the Rohingya refugee camp located in Cox’s Bazar in south-eastern Bangladesh. He said that BSF has increased surveillance on the border to prevent cross-border crime and infiltration.
In the last three and a half months, the Government Railway Police, BSF and Tripura Police have arrested more than 445 Bangladeshi nationals and more than 60 Rohingyas who entered India illegally from Agartala Railway Station and various places in Tripura.
Also, in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that in the last two months, the police have traced 138 infiltrators and deported them to Bangladesh.
