By election date change: The Election Commission has changed the dates of by-elections to be held in three states. By-elections will no longer be held in Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Punjab on November 13. Voting in these three states will now be held on November 20 instead of November 13. The Election Commission has decided to postpone the by-election by a week as it falls between several festivals.
It is noteworthy that many parties including BJP and Congress had appealed to the Election Commission to postpone the voting for the by-election on November 13. These political parties said that due to many festivals, voting may be less during the voting on November 13. However, the election results will come only on November 23. The results of Jharkhand and Maharashtra assembly elections will also be declared on 23rd November.
In the order issued regarding change in dates, the Election Commission has said that the bath of Kartik Purnima is on 15 November 2024. In such a situation, many national and state level parties including BJP, Congress, BSP had demanded from the Election Commission to change the dates of by-elections. On the demand of political parties, the Election Commission has decided to change the dates of voting for the by-elections on Monday.
By-elections in the assembly constituencies of three states Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Punjab will now be held on 20 November 2024 instead of 13 November. By-elections were to be held on ten vacant assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. Of which the case of Milkipur assembly seat of Ayodhya is going on in the court.
Due to this, the election dates for Milkipur Assembly seat were not announced. Voting for nine assembly seats of UP Ghaziabad, Kundarki, Mirapur, Karhal, Khair, Sisamau, Phulpur, Katehari and Majhwan will now be held on November 20 (Wednesday). However, the election results of these nine seats will be declared only on November 23.
