The BJP on Sunday nominated Mohan George as its candidate for the by -election of Nilambur assembly constituency. The party’s national general secretary Arun Singh announced the candidature in Delhi.
Party sources said that Mohan George, a member of the State Committee of Kerala Congress, a partner of the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF), will formally join the BJP today.
George Nilambur is a lawyer in the court and has previously worked with various groups of Kerala Congress. George told reporters in Nilambur that he would compete well in the by -elections.
The BJP, who was initially hesitant to contest the by -election, left the seat for the NDA Religion Jan Sena (BDJS). Since the party was also clipping from contesting elections, the BJP contacted Mohan George and decided on his candidature.
The main contest in the by -election to be held on June 19 is between CPI (M) State Secretariat member M. Swaraj and Congress candidate Aryadan Shaukat.
Sources in his party said that PV Anwar, who had resigned from the post of MLA, clearing the path of the by -election, is planning to contest elections after failing to compromise with UDF.
