Bypolls 2025: The Election Commission of India has announced the by -election dates in five assembly seats in four states on 25 May today. These include seats in Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab and West Bengal. According to the information, votes will be cast in these four states on June 19 and results will be declared on 23 June. At the same time, the last date for filing nomination in the election is June 2.
Which assembly seats will be voted?
According to the schedule issued by the Election Commission, elections will be held in Gujarat’s Kadi and Visavadar, Nilambur in Kerala, Ludhiana West in Punjab and Kaliganj assembly seats in West Bengal. The notification will be issued on this 26th of May and the election process will start. Candidates can file nominations for the election of these seats by June 2, while they will be able to withdraw their names by June 5.
The vacant seats due to the resignation or demise of these MLAs
1. First of all, when it comes to Gujarat, the Kadi seat was vacant here due to the death of BJP MLA Karsanbhai Panjibhai Solanki. He died of cancer on February 4, 2025.
At the same time, the Visavadar assembly seat was vacant due to the resignation of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Bhayani Bhupendrabhai Gandubhai. He resigned from AAP in December 2024, then joined BJP.
2. Talking about Punjab, here Ludhiana seat became vacant due to the death of MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. According to the police, Gogi was shot dead by his pistol, due to which he died on January 11, 2025.
3. MLA PV Anwar resigned in Kerala’s Nilambur seat, due to which the seat was vacant and now a by -election is being held here.
4. Kaliganj seat of West Bengali was vacant due to the death of MLA Naseeruddin Ahmed, due to which the by -election is being held here.
