The central government will hold a meeting with the protesting farmers of Punjab in Chandigarh on February 14, in which their demands will be discussed. A senior central government official gave this information on Saturday. The protesting farmers are demanding legal guarantee on MSP for crops.
After the announcement of the proposed meeting, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal agreed to seek medical help. Dallewal’s fast unto death entered its 54th day on Saturday. Farmer leader Sukhjit Singh Hardojhande said Dallewal will not end his fast until a legal guarantee is given on the minimum support price (MSP) for crops.
Earlier, a delegation of Union Agriculture Ministry officials led by Joint Secretary Priya Ranjan met fasting farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and held a meeting with representatives of the United Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
After the announcement of the meeting, farmer leaders appealed to Dallewal to seek medical help so that he can participate in the proposed deliberations. Speaking to reporters at the protest site in Khanauri, Ranjan said that keeping in mind the deteriorating health of Dallewal, a high-level delegation was sent by the Centre.
Ranjan said, “We inquired about his health and held a meeting with the representatives (of protesting farmer organisations).” He said that the meeting will be held in Chandigarh on February 14. “We urge him (Dallewal) to break his fast and seek medical help so that he can attend the meeting,” he said.
