New Delhi, March 13 (IANS). Chandigarh, Daman and Diu have achieved 100 per cent of the roof solar targets on their government buildings, leading them to lead the country in adopting clean energy.
States like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are also doing well.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said that the government is monitoring progress in all states to ensure smooth and timely implementation of the scheme with the target of reaching 1 crore houses by 2026-27.
The world’s largest domestic roof solar initiative, PM Surya Ghar Free Power Scheme (PMSGMBY) has achieved a historic achievement, in which 10 lakh houses have now been operated with solar energy.
The scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2024, is rapidly giving a new shape to India’s energy landscape.
With receiving 47.3 lakh applications, this initiative has already distributed subsidy of Rs 4,770 crore to 6.13 lakh beneficiaries.
Easy financeing options of the scheme include collateral-free loans up to Rs 2 lakh at a concessional interest rate of 6.75 percent through 12 public sector banks, which has further accelerated it.
So far 3.10 lakh loan applications have been received, out of which 1.58 lakhs have been sanctioned and 1.28 lakhs have been distributed.
With a 15 -day subsidy transfer process and zero electricity bill for many beneficiaries, this scheme is not only providing electricity to homes, but also strengthening people.
According to the ministry, every solar power installation under PMSGMBY reduces carbon emissions equal to planting 100 trees, leading India moving towards a clean, green and self -sufficient future.
Under this scheme, homes are provided free electricity by applying subsidized rooftop solar panels, which reduces their energy costs.
By promoting the use of solar energy, the government is expected to save an estimated Rs 75,000 crore in the cost of electricity annually from this scheme.
The scheme encourages the adoption of renewable energy sources, which contributes to more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy mix in India.
According to the ministry, “Changes in solar energy under this scheme will help reduce carbon emissions, which will strengthen India’s commitment to reduce carbon footprints.”
