Milkipur By Election 2025: Voting for Milkipur assembly seat of Ayodhya is to be held on February 5. Bharatiya Janata Party and Samajwadi Party have announced candidates for this seat. On Wednesday, after BJP and SP, Azad Samaj Party led by MP Chandrashekhar Azad has also announced the name of the candidate for Milkipur seat. Azad Samaj Party has declared Santosh Kumar alias Suraj Chaudhary as its candidate. BJP made Chandrabhan Paswan its candidate for Milkipur seat. Whereas SP has fielded Ajit Prasad, son of MP Awadhesh Prasad.
Who is Santosh Kumar alias Suraj Chaudhary?
Azad Samaj Party candidate from Milkipur seat, Santosh Kumar alias Suraj Chaudhary is a rebel leader of Samajwadi Party. He was once an important face of SP and very close to Ayodhya MP Awadhesh Prasad. Recently, Santosh Kumar alias Suraj Chaudhary had left SP along with 500 of his supporters.
Santosh Kumar, who left SP, had accused MP Awadhesh Prasad of nepotism. Santosh Kumar had alleged that Awadhesh Prasad had promised him to get SP ticket from Milkipur seat after becoming MP. But after winning the election, he went back on his promise and gave the ticket to his son Ajit Prasad.
In such a situation, Santosh Kumar, who is now contesting from Milkipur election on behalf of Azad Samaj Party, can increase the problems of SP. Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress have stayed away from the by-elections. Where Congress will not field its candidate on this seat and will support the alliance candidate. Whereas BSP has decided not to contest the by-election.
Milkipur seat had become vacant after Awadhesh Prasad, who was the MLA from here, was elected MP from Faizabad seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Last year, in the by-elections for nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, BJP and its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal had won on seven seats. Whereas SP could win only two seats. It is believed that there will be a direct contest between BJP and SP in the by-election to be held on Milkipur seat.
