The Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi government has canceled the tender of Rs 60 lakhs issued for renewal of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s government residence. The decision was taken through an official notification issued by the department on 7 July.

The tender was to be opened on July 4, but it has been canceled citing administrative reasons. There was a plan to get electricity fitting and other technical work done in the Chief Minister’s bungalow. A tender of Rs 60 lakh was issued for this. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took charge in February this year, he was allotted Bungalow No.1 on Raj Niwas Road in June. This bungalow is of type-7 category.

The decision to cancel the tender has been taken at a time when the opposition parties strongly criticized the expenditure. After the tender was released, the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress accused the BJP government of making ‘Maya Mahal’ and ‘Rang Mahal’ and called it a waste of public money. However, the BJP defended the allegations, saying that this work is not for luxury but a regular part of the government process and nothing is uncommon in it.
