Bajrang Dal activists protested outside his residence for the statement of Konkani writer Uday Bheberre about his relationship with Maratha Raja Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Goa. A group of activists staged a peaceful protest outside the residence of an 87 -year -old writer in Madgaon city of South Goa on Friday evening and condemned the video titled ‘Jagor’ uploaded on social media, in which he criticized Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Sawant, while addressing a state -level function related to Shivaji Jayanti earlier this week, claimed that most of the Goas were saved from converting into Christianity during the Portuguese rule as Shivaji Maharaj had ruled most of the state while three taluka had Portuguese rule. Bheberre denied Sawant’s claim in his video and accused him of distorting historical facts. The protesters condemned Bhebare’s statement in the video and burnt his effigy in Kunkolim village in South Goa and later left for his residence in Madgaon city.
Viraj Desai, convenor of the Goa unit of Bajrang Dal, claimed that there was no evidence in support of the statements made by the author in the video and alleged that Bambare is distorting history to please a particular community and insult the Maratha king.
