Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal condemned the “controversial” comment on the Supreme Court by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Sunday and said that this is a clear case of contempt of court and violation of the Constitution.
Venugopal further said that it cannot be taken lightly and it is a serious attack on the judiciary.
Talking to ANI, the Congress General Secretary said, “This is a clear case of contempt of court and violation of the Constitution. It cannot be taken lightly. An MP has made serious allegations against the Chief Justice of India. It is a straightforward attack on the judiciary.”
He further said that action should be taken by the Chairman and the court. He said, “The Speaker and the Court should take action. They are trying to threaten the judiciary.”
Meanwhile, JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey said that dictatorship in the country has reached the level that now MPs are seen challenging the court. The JMM spokesperson on Saturday urged the judiciary to take action against Dubey and called the Godda MP’s remarks “unfortunate”.
Speaking to ANI, Pandey said, “The dictatorship in the country has reached the level that a member of Parliament is now challenging the court. Are these people more scholars than judges? Will they do something in the darkness of majority and will the courts be silent? When the courts give a verdict in their favor, they say that the judiciary is the third pillar of democracy.”
“The court should take action against him. It is very unfortunate,” he said.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi also criticized Dubey’s remarks and alleged that BJP members had become so fanatic that they were now threatening the judiciary.
Owaisi said, “You people (BJP) are tubelight … threatening the court in this way. Do you also know what Article 142 is? It was made by BR Ambedkar.” He cited the provision of the Constitution which gives the Supreme Court the right to give full justice in any case.
