New Delhi, November 2 (IANS). The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPP) has recently increased the prices of many medicines by 50 percent. On Saturday, Congress MP Manickam Tagore wrote a letter to PM Modi regarding the increase in medicines. He has expressed concern about the price of medicines.
The Congress MP wrote in the letter, “I am expressing my concern over the recent decision of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) to increase the maximum prices of eight commonly used medicines by 50 per cent. The government has cited extraordinary circumstances and public interest as the reason behind this increase, but I believe it is important to clarify the rationale behind this important decision.
He further wrote, “A sudden increase in drug prices could impact essential medicines for diseases like asthma, TB, bipolar disorder, and glaucoma. These medicines are life-saving for millions of citizens. Many patients and their families are already “Increasing drug prices may place an additional burden on these individuals who are facing financial challenges in affording essential treatments, which may impact their health outcomes.”

He further said, “The government is urged to resist pressure from big pharma companies and present clear rationale for this decision.
