Congress MP Manikam Tagore retaliated on Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju for criticizing Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, saying that the demand for accountability should not be called “anti-national rhetoric”. He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should answer the questions being raised by the opposition in Parliament.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi, Rijiju had said that instead of presenting the solidarity of the country, he is criticizing Prime Minister Modi on foreign policy and saying ‘language of Pakistan’. Rijiju told reporters, “This causes damage to the country.”
Reversing the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Tagore said that Rijiju’s attack on the Leader of the Opposition is not only unacceptable, but also shows that ‘how nervous the Modi government is’.
He posted on ‘X’, “When (S) Jaishankar meets the Chinese leadership, what he says (or cannot say), he matters more than any lecture given to the opposition. Janata Rahul Gandhi comes from the family who divided Pakistan and created Bangladesh, which is a moment of strategic success in India’s foreign policy.” He said that the Prime Minister is not above Parliament.
The Congress MP claimed, “He (Modi) is leading a minority party in a coalition government, which has been weakened by the people of India.” He said, “The opposition wants Parliament to go. We want the Prime Minister to speak and reply to the House, not hide behind the artificial monoton.”
Tagore said that the demand for accountability should not be presented as “anti-national” rhetoric. He further said that this is democracy, not dictatorship.
He said, “If Modi ji cannot face Parliament, cannot talk to the elected MPs, then he should ask himself who is really harming India’s democracy? Kiren Rijiju, pay attention to his words. Parliament belongs to the people, not of any one party.”
