New Delhi, 3 March (IANS). Congress spokesperson Shama Mohammad made an objectionable remarks about Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, causing a ruckus on social media. This controversy is not taking the name of stopping and many people are criticizing them from politics to sports world.
In fact, after Rohit Sharma was dismissed soon in the Champions Trophy match between India and New Zealand, Shama Mohammed called Rohit Sharma a ‘fat player’ on the social media forum ‘X’. He wrote, “Rohit Sharma is thick according to a player! He needs to lose weight! And of course, he is the weakest captain of India.”
People did not like this comment on social media and it was considered to be a mockery statement of Rohit Sharma. It was strongly condemned from all sides.
As the controversy increased, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also reacted to this and took a dig at the Congress party. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also taunted Rahul Gandhi, reprimanding the Congress.
He said- “Congress should be ashamed! Now he has fallen behind the captain of the Indian cricket team! Do he now want to feed Rahul Gandhi when he has failed in politics?”
Bhandari also said that this is an insult to every Indian cricket fan, who stands with his team.
After intensifying criticism, Shama Mohammad removed his social media posts, but the Congress seems to be isolated in this controversy.
Priyanka Chaturvedi, leader of the Congress ally Shiv Sena (UBT), supported Rohit Sharma. He wrote on social media-
“I am not a big fan of cricket, but I can definitely say that Rohit Sharma, whether weight loss or more, he has brought the Indian team to heights. Their hard work and dedication matters. Come to win, champion!”
Speaking to the news agency IANS, the cabinet minister of Delhi government Manjinder Singh Sirsa said on this matter, “This is a very embarrassing statement of the Congress spokesperson, he has abused our team captain Rohit Sharma. Our team is one of the best teams in the country and the world. This shows the dirty thinking of Congress. This makes the Congress not see anything other than Rahul Gandhi. He should be the Prime Minister of the country.
Delhi Legislative Assembly member and BJP leader Tarwinder Singh Marwah told IANS, “At first it is wrong to speak such a thing about someone’s weight and Rohit Sharma has illuminated the name of the country, so it is shameful to do such a thing about that player, he should take back his words.”
Significantly, Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian team since 2023. Under his captaincy, India has won the T20 World Cup and two Asia Cups. He has also made Mumbai Indians a five -time champion in the IPL.
