New Delhi, Sep 6 (IANS) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday appointed wrestler Bajrang Punia as the working president of the All India Kisan Congress.
Congress Organisation General Secretary KC Venugopal said in a press release, “Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the proposal to appoint Bajrang Punia as the Working President of the All India Kisan Congress with immediate effect.”
Bajrang Punia has been given this important responsibility by the Congress party just hours after joining the Congress party along with his fellow wrestler Vinesh Phogat.
After receiving the important responsibility from the party, Bajrang Punia wrote on the social media platform X, “I would like to thank President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal for giving me such a big responsibility. I will try to stand shoulder to shoulder with the farmers facing the crisis and be a partner in their struggle and work as a true soldier of the organization. Jai Kisan.”
Earlier, Punia and Phogat joined the Congress in New Delhi in the presence of senior leaders including Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, spokesperson Pawan Khera and Haryana Congress chief Uday Bhan.
While giving party membership to Vinesh and Bajrang, Congress National General Secretary KC Venugopal said that today is a very big day. We have been with the wrestlers from the beginning and will continue to do so. We are proud of both these wrestlers.
While welcoming both the Olympians to the party, Congress leader Pawan Khera said that both the players have won the hearts of the country.
After joining Congress, Bajrang Punia said that he will always be with Congress. The party of the whole country was with us in difficult times, but BJP did not support us.
After joining Congress, Vinesh Phogat said, “I am happy that today I am in the party which always stands with women. I would also like to thank the media for always being with us. The media played an important role in raising our voice. If anyone supported us in difficult times, it was Congress. When we raised our voice against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, every party in the country stood with us, but not BJP. We will strengthen the Congress party and the country, we will work on the ground.”
Earlier, both the wrestlers had met Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also met both the wrestlers.
