Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reacted to the initial trends of the Congress’s poor performance in the Delhi assembly elections, saying, “I don’t know, I have not seen the results yet.” While talking to reporters in Kannur, Kerala, this comment came, as the Congress was struggling to gain an edge in any constituency according to initial trends.
According to the Election Commission website, the Congress was not following any seat. By 11.15 am, BJP was leading in 41 seats, while AAP was ahead in 29 seats. The majority figure to form a government in the national capital is 36.
Till the news was written, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was leading by a margin of around 250 votes from the New Delhi seat. AAP candidate and Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj was trailing by BJP’s Shikha Roy by 459 votes in Greater Kailash seat. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Kalkaji seat was trailing by BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 1149 votes. The BJP is leading by 2260 votes in Okhla seat, which is considered to be the strong stronghold of AAP Amanatullah Khan.
Delhi Minister Gopal Rai is leading by 5602 votes from Babarpur seat, while Imran Hussain is leading by 1824 votes from Ballimran seat. Satyendra Jain is trailing from BJP’s Karnail Singh by 2956 votes from Shakur Basti seat. Former AAP leader Kailash Gehlot, who recently joined BJP, is expected to get a comfortable lead of 2217 votes in Bijwasan seat.
Counting is going on for the by-elections in Delhi as well as Milkipur seat in Uttar Pradesh and Erode seat in Tamil Nadu. Voting was held on February 5 for a 70 -member assembly in Delhi, with a total of 60.54 percent polling. AAP is aiming for the third consecutive time to come to power, while the BJP is making every effort to return to power after more than two decades in the national capital.
