The Congress on Saturday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the latest statement of US President Donald Trump and said that he should take Parliament in confidence in the second phase of the budget session starting from March 10.
The main opposition party also claimed that if Trump’s talk is correct, then it is the surrender of the Modi government and this will crush India’s economy more. US President Trump said on Friday that India has agreed to “cut” its charges.
He reiterated his claim that India imposes heavy duty on America, making it difficult to sell products there. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on ‘X’ citing his statement, “Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is in Washington DC for a trade talks with America. Meanwhile, President Trump makes this statement. What has India agreed? Is the interests of Indian farmers and manufacturing sector being compromised? ”
He said, “When Parliament starts again on March 10, the Prime Minister should take Parliament in confidence in it.” Pawan Kheda, head of the Congress media department, told reporters, “140 crore Indian citizens are knowing their government’s trade policy through US President Trump. Has the Government of India decided to cut ‘tariff’ under pressure from Donald Trump, a close friend of Prime Minister Modi? “
He questioned whether Union Minister Piyush Goyal has bowed under pressure and signed the criteria directed by ‘Howdi Modi’s close friend Namaste Trump’? Kheda said, “If there is a ‘deal” then why is this’ deal “hidden in the curtain of privacy? If countries like Mexico and Canada can talk about a month’s break on the mutual ‘tariff’ of America, then why can’t India do it? India asks for answers. ”
He said, “There have been a stable, strong and valuable strategic comprehensive relationship between Indo-US-US mutual support. Dr. Manmohan Singh and George W. Bush together set details of the historic Indo-US Agreement, which was beneficial for both sides. ‘
The Congress leader claimed, “Dr. Singh had threatened the political future of his government for this, but it was helpful in ending national interests and India’s civil nuclear distinction. Today, Prime Minister Modi is doing exactly the opposite, it seems that his government knows the line set by Mr. Trump. ”
According to Kheda, the Union Budget 2025–26 reduced import duty on high-capacity motorcycles for American brands such as Harley-Davidson. On 13 February, the Modi government reduced the tariff from 150 percent to 100 percent on the American borbon whiskey. The Government of India has also reduced the import duty on Washington Apple from 50 percent to 15 percent. He claimed that the results of the US fee may be disastrous for India.
Kheda questioned the Prime Minister, “Why have you surrendered the national and strategic interests of India?” When President Trump announced that India had agreed to reduce the duty, what was your minister Piyush Goyal doing in America? Is it not better to bear the counter -duty than to reduce the fee after the declaration of counter -duty? “He asked,” Whom did you believe before taking this strategic decision, the Union Cabinet, Parliament, the political party? ” If Mexico and Canada can talk to Trump by picking up the phone, why not you? ”
Kheda said, “Has the Modi government abandoned the interests of our MSME to benefit selected friends? Is their friendly interests more important than the interests of Indian farmers and manufacturing sector for you? “He claimed,” The Modi government’s business policy is disastrous and if the current concession is correct, the Indian economy will be more crushed by the weight of Modi ji’s surrender. “
