New Delhi, March 26 (IANS). Before the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, the Congress has officially announced to contest elections under the ‘India’ block.
The decision was taken in a high level meeting chaired by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by several prominent leaders including Rahul Gandhi and senior Congress leaders of Bihar. Bihar Congress President Rajesh Kumar, while addressing the media in New Delhi, confirmed the party’s stand.
Kumar said, “The Congress party will contest under the Bihar assembly election ‘India’ alliance. Unlike other states, the alliance in Bihar is united and our primary objective is to defeat the BJP -led coalition. The BJP remains our main rival in Bihar.”
When asked about the seat sharing formula, Rajesh Kumar clarified that it is too early to discuss it.
He said, “It is too early to comment on seat sharing at this time. When the elections come closer, our leaders will decide the formula together.”
Despite the RJD presented Tejashwi Yadav as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the Grand Alliance, the Congress leaders indicated that the final decision would be made after consultation with all the coalition partners.
Congress in -charge Krishna Allavaru emphasized that the name of the Chief Minister candidate would be “after meeting with coalition partners”.
Krishna Allavaru did not make any commitment when Prashant Kishore was asked about the possibility of Jan Suraj being included in the ‘India’ block. He said, “A decision will be taken only after proper discussion. We will sit and talk about it.”
On the role of Pappu Yadav, Allavaru said, “The ‘India’ alliance stands with all those who stand against the BJP.”
Prominent leaders of Bihar Congress including former state president Akhilesh Singh, former ministers Ramjatan Sinha and Shakeel Ahmed attended the meeting.
