Ahead of its extended CWC meeting in Karnataka’s Belagavi, the Congress on Thursday said it will rededicate itself to protecting, preserving and promoting the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, which is being “systematically attacked by that ideological brotherhood , who fought them bitterly.”
In an effort to be prepared for the challenges ahead, the Congress will decide on the plan of action for the next year at its CWC meeting called ‘Nav Satyagraha Meeting’ to be held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Belgaum session chaired by Mahatma Gandhi in Belgaum, Karnataka .
The opposition party has said that Home Minister Amit Shah’s “insult” of BR Ambedkar will be taken up for discussion in Belagavi and “strict action” will be taken on the issue.
Congress general secretary (communications in-charge) Jairam Ramesh said in a post on It was a historic session.”
He said, “Today the Extended Working Committee is holding its Nav Satyagraha meeting at the same place. It will rededicate itself to protect, preserve and promote the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi – which is being systematically attacked by that ideological brotherhood , who had fought hard against them and who had attacked the Constitution when it was adopted.”
Addressing a joint press conference with Congress general secretary organization KC Venugopal and AICC media and publicity department chief Pawan Kheda on Tuesday, Ramesh said the expanded Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting to be held on December 26 will be called ‘New Satyagraha’. It has been named ‘Meeting’, in which two resolutions will be passed.
Ramesh said that ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Constitution’ rally will be organized in Belagavi on December 27.
Around 200 leaders, including CWC members, permanent invitees, special invitees, Central Election Committee members, State Congress Committee members, state CLP leaders, parliamentary party officials and former chief ministers of the party will participate in this “historic session”.
On December 26, ‘Nav Satyagraha meeting’ will start at 2.30 pm in Mahatma Gandhi Nagar and on December 27, ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Constitution’ rally will be organized in Belagavi at 11.30 am.
Congress Party MPs, All India Congress Committee officials and lakhs of Congress workers will participate in the rally to be held in Mahatma Gandhi Nagar.
