The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought response from the Center and the Election Commission on a petition by Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh challenging the recent amendments to the 1961 Conduct of Elections Rules.
The amended rules restrict public access to CCTV and other election-related documents.
A bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar considered the arguments of senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi appearing for the Congress leader and issued notice on the petition.
The bench said it will hear the petition in the week starting March 17.
