Devendra Fadnavis is a veteran leader of BJP. He was born on 22 July 1970 in Nagpur. He has been active in politics since his student days. He started his politics from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. He later became the ward convenor of BJP and from here his political journey began.
The full name of Devendra Fadnavis, who belongs to a Marathi Brahmin family, is Devendra Gangadhar Rao Fadnavis. His father Gangadhar Rao was associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Jan Sangh. His father had also been a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. When Fadnavis was just 17 years old, his father passed away. Devendra Fadnavis is a law graduate. He has studied Business Management and Project Management from Germany.
Became councilor at 22 and mayor at 27
Devendra Fadnavis became a councilor in 1992 at the age of just 22. He won the election of councilor in Nagpur Municipality elections. Five years later, in 1997, he became the Mayor of Nagpur at the age of just 27. Just two years later, in 1999, he contested the assembly elections for the first time and became an MLA. Since then he has been continuously winning the assembly elections.
Became CM at the age of 44
Devendra Fadnavis became the Chief Minister at the age of 44. BJP made him the President of Maharashtra in 2013. Under his chairmanship, the party contested the 2014 assembly elections in which BJP won 122 seats and the party formed the government in alliance with Shiv Sena and Devendra Fadnavis became the Chief Minister. At that time his age was 44 years. Fadnavis became the second youngest Chief Minister of Maharashtra after Sharad Pawar. Sharad Pawar became the youngest Chief Minister in 1978 at the age of just 38.
