According to sources, Rajnath Singh had a conversation with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge late Sunday evening. It is being told that the BJP is trying that the election of CP Radhakrishnan, the candidate announced by the NDA for the post of Vice President, becomes unopposed. According to the report, the Vice President will be elected on September 9. Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will command the election from the NDA. Kiren Rijiju will discharge the role of election agent.
It is noteworthy that since Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned as Vice President, many names were being speculated about the new contender. But on Sunday, Bharatiya Janata Party National President JP Nadda put an end to all speculation and declared Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as Vice Presidential candidate.
With the announcement of the name of the candidate, JP Nadda said that the BJP will try its best to conduct an uncontested election. For this, talks will be held with opposition parties. He said that efforts should be made to conduct the Vice Presidential election unopposed to the opposition’s support. Senior leaders will contact the leaders of the opposition. It may be noted that Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned as Vice President on 21 July last month citing health reasons. After which the post of Vice President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha became vacant. After the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Election Commission announced the date of the election process. The post of Vice President will be held on September 9. At the same time, nomination papers will be filed by August 21.
