New Delhi, January 7 (IANS). The Election Commission will announce the dates of Delhi Assembly elections on Tuesday. Delhi Assembly elections will be announced at 2 pm. The tenure of the Assembly ends on 23 February. A press conference has been organized regarding this.
The Election Commission will announce the election dates at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. The tenure of the 70-member Delhi Assembly is going to end on February 23. In 2020, election dates were announced on 6 January. After voting on 8 February, the counting of votes was done on 11 February. In which Aam Aadmi Party got a bumper victory. In the elections, Aam Aadmi Party had won 62 out of total 70 assembly seats in Delhi, while BJP had won eight seats.
At the same time, the performance of Congress was disappointing. This party could not even open its account in Delhi.
After the announcement of elections, the Model Code of Conduct will come into force in Delhi. The ruling AAP is eyeing a hat-trick. It had won 67 seats in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020. BJP has not been able to reach double digits in the last two assemblies.
Elections can be conducted in a single phase. This could be the last election under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. He is going to retire on 18th February.
Earlier on January 6, the Election Commission had released the final list of voters for the Delhi Assembly elections. The Commission had said in its statement that a total of 1 crore 55 lakh 24 thousand 858 voters are registered. Apart from this, out of these, 84 lakh 49 thousand 645 are male voters, while 71 lakh 73 thousand 952 are female voters.
For the last few days, all the political parties in Delhi are among the public with their promises and claims. The era of sledging, controversial statements and allegations and counter-allegations continues. On January 4, Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MPs Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh met the District Magistrate and lodged a complaint against the deletion of voters’ names. But, the New Delhi District Election Officer had termed this complaint as baseless. He had said that there is no truth of any kind in this complaint.
