In September last year, Atishi was nominated as Delhi Chief Minister in the AAP MLA meeting held at Kejriwal’s residence. The BJP announced the Chief Ministerial candidate at the last moment after considering several candidates under its political strategy. Along with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Kapil Mishra, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Kumar Indraj and Pankaj Kumar Singh were appointed as ministers.
Returning to power after 27 years, the BJP defeated prominent AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi, Manish Sisodia from Jangpura and Saurabh Bhardwaj from Greater Kailash.
In the last 2020 and 2015 Delhi elections, AAP won fiercely – by winning 67 and 62 seats respectively, limited the BJP to one point and stopped the Congress from capturing a seat, under the leadership of Sheela Dixit. The 15 -year governance period of the party came to an end.
