Delhi election result 2025: Middle class was once considered a strong support base of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi, but this base has slipped in this election. For many years, the promises of “AAP” of anti -corruption measures and welfare schemes have been firmly associated with the middle class of Delhi. But recent developments, including corruption allegations, bad condition of dirt, traffic and air pollution and lack of new and attractive ideas in “AAP”, have greatly reduced the party’s impact among this important voter class.
Middle class leaders
For years, the Indian middle class has been forced, pressed and cumbersome. A large part of his income goes into tax while in return he gets minimum government assistance. Since its establishment in 2012, “AAP” has established itself as a political force that recognizes middle class struggles well, its life.
In 2023, “AAP” launched its “middle class manifesto”, which talked about better tax relief and addressed problems such as rising life costs, pollution and development of infrastructure. But the AAP manifesto failed to reinforce AAP’s middle class support in front of BJP’s competitive promises.
Pay Commission, Tax Relief
While AAP focused on welfare schemes like free electricity and free bus travel, the BJP adopted a different way to woo the middle class. Promises of tax relief in the last Union Budget, especially, promises to make the income of up to Rs 12 lakh tax free – has affected the middle class voters. The BJP announced the 8th Pay Commission before the elections to the government employees. . This gave further encouragement to the BJP’s voter base. The most important change came with the BJP with the promise of continuing the welfare schemes of AAP. Also started their own schemes like giving women Rs 2,500 per month and expanding health coverage under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, due to which the voters benefited from your programs got the message that what they are getting is made. Extra benefits will be available together. So it became difficult to ignore the BJP’s offer. You paid prominently on services like clean governance and education and healthcare but its previous record on major issues like air pollution, water supply and infrastructure has become a matter of controversy. The middle class of Delhi, which has been suffering from the state of pollution and public services for a long time, has failed to remove the concerns of it and all of this became an important cause of the middle class disillusionment.
This growing dissatisfaction opened the way for the BJP to make a dent in the traditional voter base, especially in middle class dominated constituencies like West Delhi, East Delhi and South Delhi. These areas have been a stronghold of AAP for a long time, but they saw a significant inclination towards the BJP.
Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leaders introduced their “middle class manifesto” in an attempt to regain their middle class Aadhaar, demanding higher tax exemption and focusing on improvement in the city’s infrastructure.
However, this step was taken too late. Middle class voters – about 40% of the voters of Delhi – looked dissatisfied with your work on major issues. Overall, the middle class has given a message that it needs work and results. This is also a warning for all parties.
