The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to AAP leader and former Chief Minister Atishi on a petition challenging his election on the basis of alleged corrupt conduct during the recent assembly elections.
Justice Jyoti Singh also issued a notice to the Election Commission of India, Delhi Police and Returning Officer of Kalkaji assembly constituency from where Atishi has won the election.
The court has fixed July 30 for the next hearing of the case. During the hearing, the lawyer of the Election Commission of India and the Returning Officer objected to the party being made in the petition.
The petition of Kamaljeet Singh Duggal and Ayush Rana challenged Atishi’s election, claiming that he and his election agents adopted corrupt conduct during the elections.
The petition filed through advocate T Singhdev has demanded to declare the election invalid. Atishi defeated his BJP rival Ramesh Bidhuri by 3,521 votes from Kalkaji seat. The petitioners are residents of Kalkaji region.
Voting for the election was held on 5 February and the results were declared on 8 February.
