New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) Aam Aadmi Party councillors had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the notification of MCD ward committee elections, but the court rejected it and the councillors withdrew their petition.
In this matter, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Municipal Corporation, Iqbal Singh has expressed his opinion, in which he said that this decision reflects the political defeat of AAP and is necessary to protect the interests of the people of MCD.
Talking to IANS, Iqbal Singh said, “If it is said in two words, then ‘Satyamev Jayate’, truth always wins. Aam Aadmi Party wanted that there should be no standing committee elections, no mayor elections, no development of Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party leaders tell people that we want elections to be held. On the other hand, you are going to the High Court to stop the elections, so the High Court has reprimanded them very well.”
He said that the people of Delhi are upset. They (Aam Aadmi Party) should be ashamed that they could not conduct the standing committee elections for two years and when the election process started, they went to court against it. The atmosphere among the councillors and the public of Delhi is in favour of the BJP.
He further said, “Democracy has slapped the Aam Aadmi Party on the face. The Mayor of Delhi had to withdraw the petition to postpone the election of MCD ward committees. We hope that the election of MCD ward committees will now be held on September 4 as scheduled. Arvind Kejriwal will no longer create any obstacle in this.”
It is known that MCD had announced the elections of ward committees on 28 August. Under this, nominations are to be made by 30 August and elections are to be held on 4 September. Aam Aadmi Party had approached the High Court regarding this. It was said in the petition that every candidate should be given sufficient time to file nomination. It has been said in the petition that due to not being given sufficient time to file nomination, the candidates will not be able to complete the proper process.
