Atishi: A glance
Atishi, a minister in the AAP government, was born on June 8, 1981 to Delhi University professor couple Vijay Singh and Tripta Singh. Atishi removed the word Marlena from her name during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign because it misled people into thinking she was a Christian. Born in a Punjabi Rajput family, Atishi now writes her name as Atishi AAP on social media.
Has worked as an advisor to Sisodia
Atishi is an AAP MLA from Kalkaji assembly seat in Delhi. Atishi has held many important responsibilities in the party. She also worked as an advisor to Manish Sisodia, who was the Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister in the Kejriwal government from July 2015 to April 2018 and worked on many important schemes to improve the level of education in government schools in Delhi.

Atishi received her schooling from Springdales School on Pusa Road in New Delhi. Atishi graduated from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University in 2001 and did further studies from Oxford University. Atishi returned to India after completing her studies and worked for some time at Rishi Valley School in Andhra Pradesh. During this time she was also associated with a non-governmental organization Sambhavna Institute of Public Policy.
She lost the election to Gautam Gambhir
Atishi has been associated with the Aam Aadmi Party since its formation. In January 2013, Atishi was included in the policy making work for the party. In 2015, she actively participated in the Jal Satyagraha organized by AAP leader Alok Aggarwal in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. AAP made Atishi the party’s candidate from East Delhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, where she lost to BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir by 4.77 lakh votes.
Won the assembly elections
In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, the party gave Atishi a ticket from Kalkaji Assembly constituency from where she won and reached the Assembly. She defeated the BJP candidate by more than 11 thousand votes. After the elections, she was made in-charge of the Goa unit of the Aam Aadmi Party. Atishi is currently one of Arvind Kejriwal’s most trusted leaders. Her becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi is considered certain.
