Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda on Thursday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Rajya Sabha, calling him the ‘biggest leader’, who can run the country with his huge leadership experiences. Participating in the discussion on the thanks to the President’s address, Deve Gowda said that he should congratulate PM Modi, who chose a ‘backward woman’ as President.

The senior leader of the Janata Dal (Secular) recalled the allegations of the Modi government being ‘communal’ and ‘enemy of the federal structure’ imposed by the opposition and said that when he (Modi) did not get an absolute majority in the third term, then The regional parties united to support him.

JDS is a partner of the BJP -led National Democratic Alliance. According to Deve Gowda, PM Modi knows running administration, as he has experience as Prime Minister and Chief Minister. Gowda said, “He is the only biggest leader in this country who can run the country.”

He said that the President in his speech has given priority to the middle class, youth, women and others and to achieve these goals, a stable government is needed which can run for five years. He said, “This government will run for five years with the support of regional parties like us.”

Gowda read the financial assistance declared for farmers and other schemes from the President’s speech and said that it is very difficult to digest it (opposition). The former PM also highlighted his challenges, struggle in politics and work done as Prime Minister during the early years of life. He said that although his tenure as PM was less than a year, he gave reservation to the Jat community of Rajasthan even in that short period.

He alleged corruption in the current Congress government of Karnataka, on which many Congress MPs objected to the main subject of discussion on the vote of thanks on the President’s address. Talking about the lack of drinking water in the city of Bengaluru, Gowda said that only Prime Minister Modi can solve this problem.
