Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that the results of the mass fight against Maoism are coming out and development and education are being promoted in its influence areas.
In his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio program, Modi said that basic facilities like bus service and education have now become possible in remote villages like Katejhari in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra and Dantewada in Chhattisgarh, which were earlier in the grip of Maoist violence.
Referring to the incident of Katejhari village in Maharashtra, the Prime Minister said, “It is common to travel by bus. But I want to tell you about a village where the bus came for the first time. The people there were waiting for this day for years. And when the bus came to the village for the first time, people welcomed it to the tune of drums.”
He also gave an example of the spread of educational facilities like science laboratories in Bastar and Dantewada areas of Chhattisgarh. Modi said, “I am happy to know that the results of class 10th and 12th were excellent.”
He said that Dantewada district topped Chhattisgarh in class 10 examination with 95 percent result and ranked sixth in the state in class 12th examination.
The Prime Minister said that in the last episode of Mann Ki Baat, he had discussed the success of science laboratories in Bastar Olympics and Maoist affected districts.
Modi said, “The children here are obsessed with science and are doing amazing in sports. These efforts tell us that people living in these areas are courageous. Despite many challenges they have chosen a path that improves their lives.”
The government has said that the fight against Naxalism has reached the decisive phase and has pledged to end this problem by 31 March next year.
