Manipur R was discussed in the Lok Sabha at 2 pm and a legal resolution was passed in Parliament, confirming the implementation of President’s rule. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in his address late night that there has been no violence in Manipur for the last four months and the situation in the state is under control.
Amit Shah said in the Lok Sabha, “There has been no violence in Manipur for the last four months. I would not say that the situation in Manipur is satisfactory, but it is under control. The Congress does not have so much MPs to bring a no -confidence motion.”
Earlier, Amit Shah proposed in the Lok Sabha to approve the President’s Declaration of President’s rule in Manipur.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor called to speak, but he asked why he raised the issue of Manipur at two o’clock in the night.
He said, “There are rich cultural heritage and natural resources in Manipur. The biggest crisis we are facing today is that the public’s trust in the state is ending. Manipur Congress has announced President’s rule only because of the no -confidence motion prepared by the Congress.”
Meanwhile, DMK MP Kanimozhi criticized the Central Government for discussing the issue at 2 pm.
Kanimozhi said, “Opposition parties have requested many times to raise the issue of Manipur in the House. But you have chosen today after two o’clock in the night. At midnight. It shows how much respect you have to the people suffering in Manipur.”
After passing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 in the Lok Sabha and the Muslim Waqf (Sandemon) Bill 2024, the proceedings of the House were postponed to resume on 3 April.
The situation in Manipur is worrying, where violent clashes are taking place between Maetai and Cookie communities. President’s rule in Manipur is applicable in Manipur since February after the resignation of Chief Minister N.Biren Singh announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Five days after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned from his post, President’s rule was implemented in Manipur under Article 356 of the Constitution.
Violence between Maetai and Cookie in Manipur erupted on May 3, 2023 after a rally by All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM). Violence had spread throughout the state and the central government had to deploy paramilitary forces to bring the situation under control.
