New Delhi, August 29 (IANS). Dr. Kumari Rachna and senior doctor Iftikhar Khadas from the Neurology Department of Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital spoke exclusively to IANS regarding the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. They said that if justice is not served, we will protest again.
Dr. Kumari Rachna said that doctors were protesting all over the country regarding the Kolkata incident. But it was stopped in view of the problems faced by the patients. However, the situation in West Bengal is completely different. Doctors are protesting after doing their duty.
He further said, the situation in West Bengal has not improved. The assurance given by the Supreme Court is not visible. If proper action is not taken and the situation there does not change, then we will have to go on strike again.
Regarding Abhishek Banerjee’s statement, he said that the TMC leader gives a statement that such incidents are happening in other states as well, but protests are not being held there. Instead of catching the culprits, the TMC people are busy doing politics.
On the report that Kolkata is considered the safest place, he said that if this is the condition of the safest place, then what will be the condition of other places. Women doctors are not able to feel safe while working.
Regarding the Kolkata incident, Dr. Iftikhar Khadas said that from the very first day our demand has been that women doctors should get security at their working place. We are demanding a separate bill for their safety. Other states have stopped protesting, but this does not mean that we have backed down. Our entire focus is on Kolkata. Justice should be delivered there.
Let us tell you that a trainee female doctor was raped and murdered in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, the capital of TMC-ruled West Bengal. There is anger among the people of the entire country including West Bengal regarding this. The CBI is investigating this case on the orders of the court, although the culprits have not been caught yet.
