Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday made a scathing attack on the allegations made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi against the Election Commission against the Election Commission and accused him of constantly misrepresenting the country’s mood and making false allegations.
Talking to media persons in Hindi in Hindi, Fadnavis said, “Rahul Gandhi, you have been making this mistake all your life. There was dust on your face and you kept cleaning the mirror.”
Earlier, in the day, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, strongly supported the BJP leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI), and accused the BJP of hijacking the constitutional institutions under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule.
Speaking to media persons on Sunday, Tejashwi said, “Ever since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, all constitutional institutions have been hijacked. The BJP IT cell gets to know the schedule before the Election Commission announced the election.
He said, “All people are working together, not to form the government, but to strengthen Bihar.”
This statement came after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called the Election Commission to publish integrated, digital, machine-elective voter list for the recent elections of all the states including Maharashtra. Gandhi said that “telling the truth” will protect the credibility of the Election Commission.
Earlier on Saturday, in a post on X, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, mentioned the ECI’s response to his allegations regarding the Maharashtra elections and said, “It is not a way to answer serious questions to issue a noted, deferred, deferred notes.”
In response, the Election Commission described Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of rigging in Maharashtra elections as “baseless”.
It said, “The baseless allegations against the voter list of Maharashtra are an insult to the rule of law. The Election Commission had put all these facts in its reply to the Congress on 24 December 2024, which are available on the ECI website. It seems that all these facts are being completely ignored while raising such issues repeatedly.”
It states, “Any wrong information spread by someone is not only a sign of disrespect for the law, but also slander thousands of delegates appointed by their political party and demolish the morale of millions of election staff, who work tirelessly and transparent during elections. After any adverse decisions by voters, trying to discredit the Election Commission, saying that it is completely worthless.
