A major initiative has been taken to make the journey of pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand more convenient. The central government has approved the Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib Ropeway project to make the darshan of Baba Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib in Uttarakhand. This decision has been taken by the Modi cabinet, due to which the devotees will now get relief from difficult paths and long journey to reach these two holy places. Under this project, a ropeway (cable car) service will be operated to reach Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib. This will make the journey more convenient and safe for pilgrims.
Kedarnath ropeway project
Kedarnath is situated at an altitude of about 11,755 feet above sea level, the route to reach here is inaccessible and difficult. Especially in winter and snowfall, many difficulties have to be faced to reach here, but in order to make this journey easier in the coming time, the government has approved the Kedarnath Ropeway project. With the construction of this ropeway, now devotees will be able to see Baba through the ropeway comfortably without any trouble. With the convenience of ropeway, the travel time of pilgrims will be reduced and they will be able to reach this holy place easily. This will not only improve the experience of traveling but also likely to increase the number of devotees visiting Kedarnath.
Hemkund sahib ropeway project
Hemkund Sahib, located at an altitude of 15,000 feet above sea level, is one of the major pilgrimage sites of the Sikh community. To reach here, devotees first have to face difficult hill paths, which are challenging. Now ropeway service will also be started to reach here. The construction of Hemkund Sahib Ropeway will make the journey safe and easy for pilgrims coming here. The project will cover the route from Ghiri village to Hemkund Sahib and will allow pilgrims to travel even in snowfall and difficult weather conditions.
Economic and environmental aspects
While approving this project, the Central Government has ensured that environmental protection is kept paramount in the construction of the project. It also aims to contribute to the development of Uttarakhand and benefit the residents there. Due to this project, the state will get an opportunity to reach new heights related to tourism. The Central Government has decided to start this project soon and it is expected that its construction work will also start soon.
These will be the three main stations.
Ropeway from Sonprayag to Kedarnath will be constructed for Kedarnath Dham. Three big stations will be built on this route, about 12 km long. It will include Sonprayag, Gaurikund and Kedarnath. The small stations will be in Chirbasa and Lincholi. If we talk about total towers, then 20 towers will be installed in this ropeway. In this, 10 to 12 trolleys will be able to run at a time, in which about 500 to 1000 passengers will be able to see Baba Kedarnath comfortably in an hour.
