Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray said on Monday that Hindi is widely spoken, but it is not a national language imposed on other states and will not be tolerated attempts to keep it above the ancient language Marathi.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) schools led by MNS and Uddhav Thackeray have been at the forefront of “imposing Hindi” as the third language for primary classes in schools.
On Sunday, the state government canceled the government order on the ‘Tri-Language’ policy in the schools in Maharashtra amid increasing protest against the inclusion of Hindi language from first grade to fifth grade.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the government order has been withdrawn and he also announced the formation of a committee under the chairmanship of educationist Narendra Jadhav to implement the language policy and to suggest further way.
Raj Thackeray said in a conversation with reporters, “People are trying to show the 150 to 200 year old Hindi language better than Marathi, whose history is more than 3,000 years old. This is unacceptable and I will not let it happen. ”He questioned the legitimacy of promoting Hindi as a national language in such a linguistic diversity country.
The MNS chief said, “Hindi is not the national language which should be imposed on other states. Such force is not right. ”
