Election Commion of India: Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Electoral Officer Chandrashekhar said that the Election Commission of India has initiated three important initiatives with the aim of increasing the accuracy of electoral roll and making the voting process more easy for voters. According to the instructions of Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, this decision has been taken in accordance with the vicious initiatives at the conference of Chief Electoral Officers held in March 2025. Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi were present on the occasion.
The Commission has decided that now the data of death registration of India will be made available to Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) through electronic means. This process will be applicable under Section 3 (5) (b) of the Electoral Registration Rules, 1960 and Section 3 (5) (B) of the Rule 9 and the Birth and Death Registration Act, 1969 (amended 2023). With this, the ERO will be able to get the information of the registered deceased on time and will be able to complete the process of removing the name without waiting for a formal request through BLO field verification.
Additionally, the Commission has decided to improve the design of voter information slip (VIS) and make it more easy for voters. Now the sequence number and part number of voters in the slip will be displayed in larger fonts, which will simplify the identity in the polling station and the roll.
Standard photo identity cards should be issued to all booth level officers (BLOs) appointed under Section 13B (2) of the Public Representation Act, 1950. With this, citizens will be able to identify the BLO and communicate with them. It is the priority of the Commission to establish reliable contact between BLO and voters while working from house to house.
